It would seem those with touring caravan insurance policies are keen to plan ahead for their 2011 holidays, with The Caravan Club revealing that 10,147 reservations were made for UK pitches in the first hour its booking system was open.
According to Practical Caravan, such was the interest that the organisation was forced to set up a special homepage and restrict access to the webpage itself so as to ensure people could book efficiently and quickly.
By midday on December 8th, more than 35,000 bookings had been made, in contrast to last year's figures which saw 55,000 reservations in total taken at the end of the opening day.
The news source went on to observe that these statistics "offer further proof of the rapidly increasing popularity of caravanning as a leisure pursuit".
According to Robert Loudon of The Camping and Caravanning Club, interest in camping site stays is also being driven by Prince William and Kate Middleton's April wedding date as people are realising they only need to book three days off to enjoy an 11-day break.
