Longer opening period for Northumberland caravan park

A caravan site in Northumberland is to have its opening period expanded following unanimous approval.
Honeysuckle Cottage Caravan Park in Widdington will now be welcoming visitors for 11 months of the year after members of Northumberland County Council's North Area Planning Committee agreed to the move, the Morpeth Herald reports.
Its gates are to remain open between January and November and planning officer Vivienne Robinson explained this approach adheres to national guidelines that serve to prevent permanent residency for a full year.
Councillor Trevor Thorne said the decision brings Honeysuckle Cottage Caravan Park up to speed with other sites in the region, adding: "I'm aware of many caravan operators in Northumberland that have this 11-month rule so that they don't become permanent dwellings as they have to vacate for one month."
Last month, the Buxton Advertiser reported that a tourer site run by the Camping and Caravanning Club at Hopping Lane in the Peak District has won approval to extend its opening season by three months.
