Caravan insurance vital as UK holidays increase

The notion that car insurance will cover a mobile home is a common misconception, according to the Daily Mail, which has recommended getting insurance for caravans.

Figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club show bookings on caravan sites in the UK increased by 25 per cent last summer as Britain's estimated 500,000 caravanners made the best of the weather conditions.

The newspaper noted that taking a caravan holiday is increasingly becoming a popular proposition as many people tighten their belts in light of the difficult economic climate.

However, this also underscores the need for people to consider protecting their mobile homes in case the commonest causes of caravan accidents - jack-knifing, tipping over or underestimating the size of the vehicle, according to the AA - occur.

And with caravan theft becoming common, the newspaper advised owners to invest in decent security measures if they want to enjoy "hefty discounts" on their insurance.

Meanwhile, Somerset's Cheddar Camping and Caravanning Club Site revealed that it has invested £80,000 into innovative environmental technologies.
