The ultimate kitsch caravan

Jenny's moongazingcat.com offers many different services - you may simply be looking for a suitably magical name for your new feline friend (we recommend 'Marmite', or 'Kissy Kiss') - or perhaps you're in the market for some handmade jewellery, or even a tarot reading? It comes as no surprise, then, that such a multi-talented person has also turned their hand to the art of Caravan renovation.

It comes as no surprise, then, that such a multi-talented person has also turned their hand to the art of Caravan renovation.

Because you've renovated two caravans - do you have a favourite?
Do they serve different purposes? Queenie my Red Caravan is my favourite: she is my party / Garden Room where friends can stay, for either cupcakes or wine. Its where we can get the best from our garde, she is the fun Caravan :-). Summer is our Green Caravan, she is also another guest room for us, but mostly an office, a kitsch, a summery Office.

What made you choose the caravan models that you did for your makeover?
I just wanted a Vintage Caravan, I love Vintage. 1950 / 1960 caravans did scare me a little. I worried about the infamous Damp & rust, so I searched for 1970 & 1980 Caravans, my childhood era, Vintage Caravans are filled with nostalgic happy, good feelings :-)

My first caravan was bought purely by location.. she was 10 minutes away and so easy to view & the seller delivered. Queenie my 2nd caravan wasn't planned. My neighbour was inspired to buy a caravan after my first caravan project but then circumstances led them to sell her to me and I found myself with another project. When conducting your makeover, did you have a plan from the get-go? With my first Caravan project, I decided I wanted a work space so I planned to buy a kickable wreck. I utterly gutted her, and was so happy with the size of the space which was revealed once she was stripped, she was huge. I wanted to put normal furniture in her.

With my 2nd Caravan, Queenie was a pure paint job, she was clean & nice but fake wood & drab colours made her dated and dull and the dated white exterior wasn't fun, coloured paint & splashes of Cath Kidston revived her big time :-)

What was the most difficult part of your caravan makeover?
Stripping the Summer's interior was a lot more difficult to do than my head had imagined, where my mind thought it would be a 5 minute job it took much more time & work. I have been very lucky because my Mum is a very industrious person and she did lots of jobs with me, its been a real family - Girl power project. We have both learned a great deal.

If you did the makeover again, what would you do differently?
Nothing! I followed my plans through and now have what I wanted. We have a lot of Garden space and now we get to use parts of our garden we couldn't have without an expensive extension or cumbersome shed. Upcycled Caravans become more valuable check out eBay they are desirable, they are the new Girly Shed :-) so if I move the Girls could either come with me or I could sell them for a profit :-)

What is the primary use of the spaces, now?
Summer is my office and Queenie is our party girl / Guest Room.

What is your favourite feature in each caravan?
I love my girls colours. Having a bright red caravan and a rich green caravan make the garden interesting. I love sitting in Queenie (red) with friends and a drink overlooking the garden and she is lovely to just chillax in. Summer (green) is a lovely place to work in, she has a lovely feeling to her. She has Fabric on the ceiling with Cath Kidston flowers and my mum fixed a large vintage Mirror onto the wall and this makes her feel even bigger.

Is another caravan makeover on the horizon?
We have been told we are allowed up to 3 caravans on our property but I am out of caravan renovating steam this year. But I have come to love the little 1950's/60's Sprite?? So I will never say never!
