Man buys back self-made caravan after 50 years apart

A man has recently been reunited with a long-lost friend after nearly 50 years apart. The Daily Mail reported that Frank Holgate, a holiday park owner in the north-west, bought a caravan he built in 1963 after a friend spotted it by chance when having a browse on eBay.

The joiner built the 12ft Silverlight caravan from the ground up before selling it for £540, yet he could not pass up the opportunity to buy it back after so many years away from one another.

What's more, a caravan insurance policy may be pretty cheap for it - after all, the caravan is still in great condition. A friend of the buyer noticed the Holgates badge on the front of the model while looking at the world's most popular auction website, and was even more surprised to see that while the caravan was still in good working order, it was also on sale for just £700 - only a 30 per cent increase on its original price.

Now the chairman of Holgates Holiday Park in Silverdale, Lancashire, Mr Holgate said of the lucky find: "It was a bit of a blast from the past to be honest and makes you wonder where all the years have gone. I never expected to come across any of our originals but it's wonderful to have it back with us and we are excited to get some refurbishment plans underway."
