Many Brits enjoy festive caravan trip

29/12/2011
Many Brits are using the Christmas break to head off on a domestic trip, new figures have shown.

According to VisitEngland's Christmas Trip Tracker survey, more than 11 million individuals - which accounts for 23 per cent of the adult population - have plans for an overnight getaway in the UK over the two-week festive spell.

It means many people will be packing up their caravans and hitting the road in order to make the most of the extra free time available.

James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland - which represents 84 per cent of the total UK visitor economy - said: "From countryside walks to stately home tours, extreme sports to theatre trips, England has a wonderful range of activities on offer during the festive period."

The industry figure added popular activities at this time of year include the traditional English pantomime, Christmas ballets and visits to historic houses, such as Hampton Court Palace and Muncaster Castle.
