Pub's caravan park extension 'will aid tourism'

The extension of a camping and caravanning park at a pub in Bolam, County Durham would serve to boost tourism in the area.
This is the view of landlord of the Countryman ale house Paul Stabler, who is hoping to increase the capacity of the site after it proved a hit with visitors, the Northern Echo reports.

Mr Stabler said that on top of being beneficial for his pub - which is located off the A68 between West Auckland and Darlington - the move would also bring in tourists, trade and greater employment opportunities to the village.

He observed: "I do know, from working with Visit County Durham, how important tourism is and I know I have their full support with this application."

Opposition against the expansion has been voiced, however, with objectors claiming the site would become too big for the village and could increase noise and disturbance levels.

The proposal is to be discussed at a council meeting on Thursday (December 15th).
